President Joe Biden delivered a soaring speech on voting rights that some are calling one of the most memorable of his time in public office. It roused political watchers like civil rights activist Reverend Al Sharpton, who shared a photo that he captioned: “… I told him that the speech was great and I was happy to hear him constantly bring up the racist elements of the voter suppression drive …”
Mother Jones also described his address on voting rights as “his most impassioned speech,” as he went after state governments for working to curtail voting rights across the country. “Some things in America should be simple and straightforward. Perhaps the most important of those things, the most fundamental of those things, is the right to vote. The right to vote freely,” Biden said. But the president reserved his strongest words for his predecessor, Donald Trump, who continues to travel around the country to claim that the election was stolen from him. “In America, if you lose, you accept the results. You follow the Constitution, you try again. You don’t call facts ‘fake’ and then try to bring down the American experiment just because you’re unhappy. That’s not statesmanship. That’s selfishness,” Biden said (via CNN). He also called out those who sought to legitimize Trump’s claim that he had won, saying, “The Big Lie is just that: A big lie.”

Joe Biden’s strong words turned heads on social media
Another social media user warned: “This is what authoritarianism is all about. Not sore losers but the destruction of and reformulation of the idea of democracy.”
Another noted we should have seen it coming, because “Trump said he would only accept the results if he was a winner. He said it in 2015 and said it in 2020 too.”
There were also those who sought to turn Biden’s words against him. One retweeted the headline: “Biden Blasts Trump for Trying to Overturn the Election: ‘That’s Selfishness,’ along with Biden’s words from his speech, “In America if you lose, you accept the results.” The user then commented, “I hope he has the opportunity to eat his words.”
